Hi guys!
What’s more festive in the makeup world around christmas than a standout red lip color? (Well, maybe glitter, but we’ll get to that in another post). In todays post I’ll be sharing with you all of the red lip products in my makeup collection, along with swatches and mini reviews on each. I also have a couple of tips for making a red lip look more polished and put together.
Let’s get into the lip products!
The red lip liner in my collection is the NYX retractable lip liner in “Ruby.” This is an awesome liner because of it’s classic red color, its creamy formula, and the fact that you don’t have to sharpen it. It does a great job of keeping the rest of these products from feathering outside the lip line through the day.
The Revlon Lip Butter in “Cherry Tart”is another classic red with a little sparkle. These lip butters are great because they are sheer, but you can easily build them up to a greater opacity on the lips. They also smell like candy.
Another lip butter, this one is called “Red Velvet.” It is a deeper red than Cherry Tart, but still has the awesome lip butter formula and smell.
This is the Maybelline Color Whisper in “Who Wore it Red-er.” These have been discontinued, but you may be able to find it on amazon. Like the name suggests, it’s a really nice and light formula that gives good color payout on the lips. This shade is definitely leans towards the pink side of red.
The Revlon Laquer Balm in “Provocateur” is a really shiny formula that has small flecks of red glitter in it. The glitter is barely noticeable, it just gives a nice reflect when you turn your head while wearing this color. It also smells like mint which makes it feel really refreshing when you apply it.
This next one is such a good buy. This is the elf ex-tra lip gloss in “Brett.” It’s the perfect festive lip gloss because of it’s beautiful color and the glitter infused in it. As you can see from the swatch the glitter picks up the light beautifully. It also has a really nice doe foot applicator that applies the gloss really precisely. Totally recommend!
Another elf product, this is the Matte Lip Color in “Rich Red.” This is my go to red lip product for a matte lip. It’s not uncomfortable at all to wear on the lips, which I can appreciate from a matte lip color! To see this on my lips click here.
This one is another favorite. The Covergirl lipstick in 305 “Hot Passion” is my go to red all year round, but especially for the holidays. It’s a super creamy formula that has just the right amount of shine.
This is the Maybelline Color Elixir Gloss in “Signature in Scarlett.” If you’ve been following me you’ll know that these are my favorite lip glosses ever. This color in particular is amazingly pigmented and I love it over any other lip product to kick the moisture up a notch.
The Essence Stay Matt Lip Cream texture is similar to a liquid lipstick. It has a mousse formula that applies to the lips wet from the applicator but then dries down to a matte finish. It also smells like cream soda which happens to be my favorite soda. However I find this to be a little too drying for me to wear on its own for more than a couple hours.
Now that you’ve seen my collection, here are some tips and additional products that I use to keep my red lips in check:
- Exfoliating your lips before wearing any lip color is important, but especially so if you’re wearing a bold color like red. I use the elf Lip Exfoliator because it tastes amazing and is so easy to use in it’s little tube.
- Adding a light shimmery color on the center of your lips makes them look fuller and adds some dimension to your makeup. A light shimmery eyeshadow works for this, but I prefer using a cream because it blends into the lip product easier than a powder. I use the white shade from the elf shimmer palette.
- Using a concealer to clean up the lip line also makes your lips more defined and allows you to be a little sloppy with lipstick/gloss application. Using a concealer in a twist up stick form like the L’Oreal True Match super blendable crayon concealer (I am in the shade fair/light) makes it really easy to fix any smudges when you’re on the go as well. I’ll usually keep this with me if I’m wearing a red lip so that touch ups are hassle free.
- My last tip (and probably the most important!) is to stick your finger in your mouth, wrap your lips around it, and then pull it out. Sounds weird, but there should be some lipstick on your finger afterwards. Better there than on your teeth! This prevents bright red lipstick from getting all over your smile after you apply it.
Let me know your favorite red lip product so I can try it out 🙂
Thanks for reading!
